My unfortunate trip which turned into a okay, kind of day

Basically on Saturday I was meant to go see 'Hot sugars Cold world' part of the BFI's film festival I was super excited and the ticket cost me £14 and the cost of me getting to London cost me so much on travel because England's travel is ridiculous. Each train station I went to they sent me to the wrong platform after two hours, I was not going to make it in 15 minutes. I was extremely frustrated and sad. I cried and was so frustrated I phoned my mum, crying how DLR f@cked up my train and cost me so much money and the BFI wouldn't refund my ticket. I then jumped on a train to South bank and some old lady sitting next to me heard my conversation on the phone and lent over and gave me tissue and Lent back over I cried when she handed me it.

Once I got to the BFI I went in the film shop I was tired but overwhelmed by the selection of films and spent £40 which is ridiculous on these 4 films only and a Alain Delon postcard. And made a friend called Kevin so it was an okay day in the end.

I got 'Lisa Says' A french film and 'Nikita' also a French film by the stunning director Luc Besson of 'Fifth Element' and'Leon' ( I really want to see his film 'Subway' also). and Atom Egoyan's 'Exotica' and the fabulous Wim Wenders 'Paris, Texas'.

I Will be writing about these films very soon because they are all so beautiful and haven't watched all of them as of yet again. As I have been very busy working five days a week to be able to afford these beautiful masterpieces.

This is my cover of Little White Lies 'Crimson Peak' issue its so beautiful the writing inside and the illustrations. I cannot wait for the film Im going to see it on Saturday and will report back to you cinephiles immediately. <3

Mermaids

Appreciation post - 1990 Mermaids

(This is not a review, I repeat this is not a review)

Does anyone else have films that throughout their whole life are too similar to your life or your exactly like the characters in them. Me and my sister relate heavily to Mermaids and Ghost World. One are mum is much more maternal than Chers character and a lot more affectionate but is a lot like her also. And me and my sister are a bit like Christina Ricci's and Winona Ryder's character. I remember the night I first watched the film. It was winter and mid December and there was a ring at the door and this wrapped up DVD just slid through the letterbox addressed to me. I opened it up and inside was Mermaids my sister promised it to me. I was 10 watching this amazing film and relating so much to it and loving it. I remember my grandad telling us about are Jewish heritage and how he was gonna make me latkes that exact week.

The films plot is about a mother  the one and only Cher who, sleeps around a lot in order to get what she wants half of the time and when she has had enough ups and leaves and forces her kids to move with her constantly. Neither of them know their fathers. After the 18th time of moving they move to Boston where they meet Bob Hoskins (RI.P we love you) and him and Cher kind of fall in love 'kind of' a word I use lightly. Ryders character Charlotte wants to be Christian and perhaps a even a nun, and her mum often reminds her she's Jewish. She then meets the Convents caretaker and bus driver for her school Joe who she is maddddly in love with and tests her faith. Ricci is so young in the film her character loves to swim and loves anything sea related  hence when Cher dresses up as a sassy mermaid.

It is based on the novel by Patty Dann. I did say this isn't a review as the film is pretty self explanatory and a cult classic so I'll just show you some reasons why I love it so much other than the personal bullish@t story you didn't need to read.

1. Chers car is fabulous

2.Chers 20 second marsh mellow gummy bear wholesome kebab sticks

3. This scene being my actual life

4.Charlottes fabulous virgin Mary outfits

5. Re-anacting this scene every Halloween

6. Chers amazing outfits that we all wanted

7. Chers sassy stare

8. routing for this relationship all the way because Joe was an actual GOD but you wanted to punch him also because he was so silent and ignored Charlotte when she caught him kissing her mum and just drove off like a jerk.....

9. Again Chers delicious dinners

10. Winona's actual hilarious dialogue throughout and relating to her on so many levels beyond comprehension

'What are thoseeeee' 11. Charlottes awful shoes

12. This scene making you feel embarrassed and cringed to the sick of your stomach

and of course the first song I ever did karaoke to duhhh

Dearest monthlies

Dearest Monthlies

Okay so this is film related post so hold up and let me explain I couldn't bring my self to name it 'monthly favourites' because for some reason it makes me cringe. So this is what this new segment is called.

1. Bubba Gump hat, I got it in LA on Santa Monica pier. One who doesn't fucking love 'Forest Gump' and two when I was 8 my ma got me a sloppy Joes top from their with 'my mama thinks I'm special on it' and its a kind of joke in my house because I'm now 18 and still wear it out and it still fits strangely (kind of like a crop top though).

2. I have been been anticipating the release of 'The diary of a Teenage Girl' for months now (the film that is) and went to a shop in West Hollywood called Booksoup which was incredible and picked it up and in two days I finished it. What and incredibly well written book I related to so many of the characters from Chuck to Minnie of course the way, girls teenage sexuality it portrayed is extremely accurate and graphic and hilariously true. The illustrations of the graphic novel by the author Phoebe Gloeckner were incredible and inspiring. I want to tell you everything about the book but I wont because I'm selfish and want you to explore the wonderful pages for yourself. Cannot wait to see the film and write a review on it I bet its fabulous.

3. I hate twizzlers they are gross they just looked aesthetically pleasing within the red scheme.

4. I went to a flea market in Fairfax and my golly did they make are English boot fairs look like a piece of sh*t excuse my language. In the UK your lucky if you find a troll doll for a tenner but everything was incredible on each stall. This thermos as they call them in the US, is an actual 90's 'Ghostbusters' lunchbox, the guy on the stall kept persuading me to get the cheap one with the flask because this one was a limited addition one and will increase in value as the years get on because the scene on the front is set in NY and still has the world trade centres in view. I love it dearly and is one of my favourites wish I was still at school (sad face).

Believe me I have loads more monthly favourites as I did splurge in LA but as of yet I haven't used them so your probably be seeing them in the next segment.

Hope your all watching films and having cinematic time

Luna

Im Back

Sorry I have been absent as of recently I have a good excuse

I don't know if anyone reads this religiously, probably not. For about a month now I haven't been able to write anything one because for three weeks my computer broke and I didn't have money to fix it and when I did I got it back one day before my holiday. So then I went to LA for two weeks and didn't have it then. LA was unbelievable and cinematically (apparently that word isn't a word but according to blogspot so if it isn't it now is according to me because it sounds nice) inspiring of course. I went in the most amazing wig shops and cinema bookshops and got some amazing bits and bobs. Anyhow I'm back and am going to be expanding my blog to still film related but other related posts also which you will see very soon,

Dogfight 1991

'Dogfight'

Dogfight is one of my absolute all time favourites there is just something about it that's real special.  I believe this is one of River Phoenix's later films and also believe to be one of his top performances he plays opposite of his real personality, with such vulgar language and angst but yet so real.  Lili Taylor also plays opposite Phoenix and as per usual is amazing.

Plot: SPOILER

The films plot is mostly set around a two day period and then flash forward to the future. Taylor plays a young naive girl 'Rose' who works in her mothers diner she's anxious timid and often plays on her guitar. Phoenix plays 'Eddie' a foul mouthed marine who comes to shore for a a night with his marine buddies who also are vulgar and crude. They all place bets on who can find the ugliest girl and bring them to a bar they rented out who ever has the ugliest girl wins the prize of every ones money and its called the 'Dogfight'. Eddie approaches Rose and sweet talks her in her mothers diner and manages to win her over. He forces her to drink more than she usually would and is very rude towards her. When she goes to the bathroom she is approached by a women who explains to her what its all about. Rose is appalled and slaps Eddie and runs home. Eddie writes her a note and places it on her window seal and they go out later in the night he apologises and they fall in love so to speak and spend the night together and learn about each others past and personality. The next day Eddie leaves for Vietnam and returns years later to see Rose as pretty as ever a with little transformation in her appearance.

Why I love the film

Costume: The film is set in mid/late 60's and the costume is not  over the top which suits other films like Wes Anderson but for the theme of this movie has been done just right , each character isn't extremely glammed up but all have faces with such character from the women who won the 'Dogfight' to Rose and Eddie themselves.

Moral: I think the Moral of the story is pretty hard hitting and the story is unlike any other I have seen in a romantic movie, its such an eccentric film and shows how quickly two opposites can fall in love while appreciating one anothers flaws.

Just right: I think now days a lot of films over do it on the costume, the glam and forget the importance of the movie plot but this film doesn't. Lili Taylor looks like a normal girl and when Eddie returns for Rose she isn't extremely been glammed up and super beautiful but simply looks the same with a few changes which I think is really important towards the message of the movie that looks aren't everything and shouldn't be and you shouldn't change for anyone.
