At Close Range 1986

I love anything that Sean penn is in especially his earlier work and lately I have been a real sucker for 80s films and binged watched a load or Eric Stoltz films which ill do a post about soon. Last night I watched 'At Close Range' which was amazing Madonna did the theme song and Patrick Leonard did the score which was sick.

I love these kind of small town crime, coming of age films; cornfield romances, bad boy, car chasing, dysfunctional families (to say the least) and with a cast like this Christopher Walken, both Penn brothers and Mary Stuart Masterson you can't really go wrong.

The films colours and props and even costumes were done just right not too over the top but enough to make the picture seem just perfect. Was it just me or was nearly every male and female wearing so much eyeliner in this film also It felt like Christopher Walken was wearing the most intense smoky eye.

Plus a young Kiefer Sutherland and Crispin Glover so yaa know thats a plus.

Foxes 1980

Director : Adrian Lyne is a moving director known for 'Fatal attraction', 'Lolita', '9 Half weeks', 'Unfaithful' all films with sexual, darker eroitic themes.

One of my favourite Jodie Foster films 'Foxes' which starrs her co-star from 'Bugsy Malone' Scott Baoi and Cherie Currie of the 'Runways. Is a coming of age film set in the late seventies revolving around a group of teen girls there friendship and darker experiences. Cherie Currie 'Annie' is the basket case of the group id say and Jeanie 'Foster's' character is always looking after her and her bad drug habits.

The Donna Summer Radio piano instrumental repeatedly plays throughout the film especially after the darker and sadder scenes and really sets the whole mood of the film. The film is a new come favourite of mine its a lot darker than expected always like an adult version of 'Now and then' starring Christina Ricci. It has a killer soundtrack and some super sick outfits. Its a very female powering film and the females run the place and the males run after them and weakened by them for sure.

The story gets much darker as the film goes on especially the end was kind of expected but not int the disturbing manor in which it happened almost odd for the time in which the film was made for such an unsettling scene. There are a few cameo performances also like a young Laura Dern one of Lynch's muses of 'Blue Velvet and 'Wild at Heart'.

Apparently around the time of release on the posters a small blurb read "People don't think we can have any serious emotions. Nobody gives a damn. But that's all right, I've got friends."

Robert Romanous of Fast times at Ridgment high and many 80s brat pack films also starts as Fosters love interest and again playing the stock type of the smooth beggy boyfriend.
