'Love me if you Dare'
This film should be named 'better than the notebook' because it is by far brilliant and funny. I think this beats any modern love/romance film by miles. The film starts the superb Marion Cotillard and her husband in real life Guillaume Canet. The french film is a romantic comedy or heartbreaking tale of two childhood friends who basically dare each other through the whole entirety of both of their lives. Who ever has captive of the Ferris wheel designed tin box gets to dare the other person. As they get older the dares get much more daring and intense they also get more spiteful and saddening at times. Without giving too much away they do end up together Sophie and Julien but in a way you may not be satisfied with. SPOILER ALERT there are two alternative endings but the film hints at the preferred ending more significantly. The preferred ending as seen at the beginning is the tin cemented in concrete and then in one of the final scenes Sophie and Julien meet after ten years and get buried in cement mix together committing suicide and the other ending is them two in a retirement home still daring each other but at the very end you see the first scene again the tin can cemented.
Its a real tear jerker but very believable and yet surreal at times. As you watch it at first as an audience you do get kind of jealous of the both of their relationship but as the film progresses you see how inconvenient and frustrating 'The Game' as the both say is.
