Studio 54

'Studio 54'
The clue is in the name this film is based upon the acclaimed night spot that is known as 'studio 54' where all the cool, fashionable important beautiful people were at and everyone else were trash. The film is centred around a young teenager Shane played by the teen heart throb of the 90's Ryan Phillips as a boy from Jersey who wants more from life. He ventures out to New York with his friends and is chosen from a crowd to party in 'Studio 54' and his friends one being Mark Ruffalo with only a minor role are rejected (also spotted Michael Pitt as an extra in one scene). There he becomes part of the wild parties and gets a job their he becomes close pals with Salma Hayek and Breckin Meyer who are young husband and wife who also work there. Recently news has broken out that this film actually cut over an hour of unreleased footage of raunchy scenes and will now after seventeen years be a acclaimed a 'Gay cult classic' as acclaimed by many notable film blogs which will change the whole story of the film. This will be fantastic as it will really clue up some of them intense scenes between Gregg and Shane and almost a 'Dreamers' like quality. Nieve Cambell also plays  Jersey girl, who made it in Shanes eyes when really she just plays a part in a soap opera.

They become close for a while but their fling fades unlike his and Hayek's character who get close. Mike Meyers also plays the owner of the club, and to be honest I really can't stand him as an actor and don't find him funny or entertaining or really believable to watch. He is the only thing I would change about the film other than that the neon tones and costumes were fantastic. Shanes character is based upon Lenny Miestorm who was a bar tender at the club and how his life changed since working their drugs, sex and music is really the whole plot and theme.

I recommend on watching this brilliant film now and then after they release the unseen directors cut and compare how brilliantly different the films. To be honest I can't wait for the unreleased version I reckon it will be extremely better and a more in-depth look on the characters and their tangled webs of lies and love.
